EMFACE in Seoul
엠페이스 · 2026 Guide
A hands-free lift that works your facial muscles and skin together for 20 minutes — no needles, no numbing cream, and you walk straight back into your day.
What Is EMFACE, and Why Is Everyone in Seoul Asking for It?
EMFACE (엠페이스) is an FDA 510(k)-cleared, needle-free facial lift made by BTL. It makes your facial muscles contract with electrical stimulation while radiofrequency warms the skin at the same time. No numbing cream, about 20 minutes on the bed, and you’re done. In Seoul it costs ₩450,000–₩880,000 per session, and the recommended four-session course runs about ₩2.0–3.5 million (public clinic prices, 2026) — noticeably less than the roughly $4,000 four sessions usually cost in the US.
Think about it: a lift with no needles, no numbing cream and twenty minutes lying down — from a device the FDA has cleared. That’s exactly why EMFACE has become the go-to “injection-free lift” in Seoul skin clinics. Actress Park Gyu-young has been its face in Korea for over a year, and abroad Jessica Simpson signed on as an official EMFACE partner while Alicia Silverstone posted every one of her sessions.
The maker is BTL Industries in Prague, Czech Republic — the same company behind EMSCULPT, the famous butt-and-abs muscle device. BTL redesigned that technology for the face and launched EMFACE in September 2022. By early 2025 it had passed one million treatments worldwide.

Training the Muscle, Not Just Heating the Skin
Your face doesn’t sag only because skin stretches. With age, facial muscles get thinner and longer, and the support they give the skin weakens. Until now, lifting devices heated the skin and the SMAS fascia but never touched the muscle underneath. That’s where EMFACE starts.

The first technology is HIFES (High-Intensity Facial Electrical Stimulation). It stimulates motor nerves to contract only the muscles that pull your face upward — the frontalis in the forehead, the zygomaticus major and minor in the cheeks, and the risorius at the corners of the mouth — while leaving the muscles that drag your mouth down alone. In 20 minutes they contract about 75,000 times. Put simply, it’s a focused gym session just for your facial muscles, which is why Alicia Silverstone called it a workout for her face.
The second is synchronized radiofrequency (RF). While the muscles work, RF warms the dermis to 40–42°C to trigger new collagen and elastin. In the maker’s trials, collagen rose 26% and elastin doubled. That temperature doesn’t affect the fat layer, so the hollowing some people worry about after ultrasound lifts like Ultherapy is not a typical concern here (manufacturer design).

The treatment itself is unusual too. Pad-style applicators are stuck on your forehead and both cheeks, and the device runs the 20 minutes on its own. Because it’s hands-free, results don’t hinge on the operator’s technique. A chin (submental) applicator arrived in 2024 and an under-eye one in 2025, so today it can treat the forehead, cheeks, under-chin and under-eye. In January 2026 BTL successfully enforced its patent against a look-alike device, so according to BTL, using RF and muscle stimulation at the same time remains EMFACE’s own technology for now. One note: some Korean articles call it a “UK” brand, but BTL is headquartered in Prague.
Who Is EMFACE Right For?
- You want a lift but would rather avoid needles — fillers, Botox and thread lifts all feel like a bit much
- You’re in your 40s to mid-50s and notice your cheeks dropping, mouth corners turning down and smile lines deepening — the group that showed the biggest change in trials
- Your face is lean and you’ve had, or worry about, hollowing after ultrasound lifting
- You’re sensitive to pain, or you need to see people the very next day
- You’re in your 20s or 30s and want to start prevention early
What Results Can You Expect from EMFACE?
- Brow and forehead lift
- Cheek and midface lift
- A tidier jawline and smaller jowls
- Softer forehead lines
- Softer nasolabial (smile) lines
- Firmer, better-toned facial muscles
- Improved skin elasticity
BTL pooled nine clinical studies and reported, after four sessions, on average 37% fewer wrinkles, 23% more lift, 30% better muscle tone and 19% higher muscle density, with 95% of patients satisfied (manufacturer trials). In everyday terms: brows and forehead lift, cheeks and midface rise, the jawline tidies up and jowls shrink, and forehead and smile lines soften.
Here’s the honest part. EMFACE isn’t a one-and-wow treatment. You need four sessions, 5–10 days apart, and results appear gradually 1–3 months after the last one, looking best at around three months. Judging it after a single trial session is the easiest way to be disappointed. On the plus side, it strengthens muscles instead of freezing them like Botox, so your expressions stay natural, and results last up to about a year. Most clinics suggest a maintenance session every 3–6 months.
What an EMFACE Session Looks Like
Protocols vary slightly by clinic.

EMFACE Prep and Aftercare
Prep and aftercare are simple — the single biggest rule is sticking to the four-session schedule.
Before your session
- Arrive with a bare face — no makeup or cream. If the pads don’t stick well, energy delivery drops
- Had Botox recently? Tell the clinic — muscle response can change, so the timing may need adjusting
- Let them know about any filler in the treatment area
- You must disclose implanted electronic devices, metal in the area, pregnancy or breastfeeding, epilepsy and heart conditions
- Take off earrings and other metal jewelry
After your session
- Pad marks, mild redness or dryness can last a few hours
- Rarely, mild muscle soreness or a headache for about a day
- Korean clinics commonly advise skipping saunas, hot baths, heavy drinking, intense workouts, peels and scrubs for 3–7 days
- Moisturize well and wear sunscreen every day
- Keep the 5–10 day interval — the effect is cumulative, so stopping halfway because you “don’t see it yet” wastes the course
EMFACE vs Ultherapy, Thermage and Botox
EMFACE doesn’t really compete head-to-head with other lifting devices — it works on a different layer. Here’s how they line up.
| Treatment | Layer it works on | How it differs from EMFACE |
|---|---|---|
| EMFACE (HIFES + Sync RF) | Facial muscles + dermis | Works on muscle, which other non-invasive lifting devices don’t target. Little pain or downtime, low hollowing risk (manufacturer design). Needs a 4-session cycle |
| Ultherapy · Shurink (HIFU) | SMAS fascia | A deeper lift in one session, but more painful and passes through fat, so volume loss is possible. Seoul clinics often pair it with EMFACE as a “double layer” |
| Thermage FLX · Onda (RF / microwave) | Dermis and fat layer | Skin tightening and fat contouring — but no effect on muscle |
| Botox · Fillers | Muscle relaxation / volume | Botox stops muscles; EMFACE strengthens the lifting ones. It can’t replace the volume a filler adds |
Look through Gangnam clinic packages and you’ll see layered combos like “EMFACE + Ultherapy 300 shots” or “EMFACE + Onda” — ultrasound takes care of the fascia while EMFACE handles the muscle and dermis. Pain-sensitive patients often pair it with low-pain devices such as Titanium or Tuneface.
Celebrities Who Have Shared Their EMFACE Treatments

Yes, the celebrity buzz is real. EMFACE has one of the most public celebrity followings of any lifting device — it has picked up a NewBeauty award and shows up on TikTok as Gen Z’s “Botox alternative.” Here’s who has talked about it, based only on their own social posts and published media.
BTL Korea’s EMFACE ambassador, featured in its outdoor ads. Allure Korea ran a “one year with EMFACE” story in November 2025.
Harper’s Bazaar Korea listed EMFACE among the five treatments she actually gets.
Revealed her first treatment in an Instagram reel and became an official EMFACE partner.
Posted all four of her sessions as reels and described it as a workout for her face.
Shared her treatment right after the 2022 launch and said she was happy with the results ahead of the Academy Museum Gala.
Said it was the best non-invasive treatment she had tried.
How Much Does EMFACE Cost in Seoul?
EMFACE is priced per session, not per shot. Below are public event prices from Seoul clinics in 2026, all VAT included. Keep in mind that the VAT refund for foreign patients on cosmetic procedures ended in January 2026, so the price you see is the price you pay.
| Option | Public price (2026) |
|---|---|
| 1 session — Gangnam trial price | ₩450,000–660,000 |
| 1 session — regular price | ₩800,000–880,000 |
| 1 session — Busan · Gwangju (for reference) | ₩550,000–590,000 |
| 3+1 session package | ₩2,640,000 |
| 4+2 session package | ₩3,520,000 |
| Reference: US standard price, 4 sessions | $4,000 (BTL-managed standard price) |
Check that it’s the genuine device. Some machines in Korea imitate the principle, which is why clinics advertise “genuine EMFACE.” Simply ask whether their device came in through BTL Korea.
