What is Exosome Facial?

ASC-Derived Exosomes · Topical Delivery
Cellular Communication Nanovesicles

Exosomes are 30–200 nanometer extracellular vesicles naturally secreted by cells, enclosed in a lipid bilayer. They carry proteins, lipids, and genetic material (microRNA) that mediate cell-to-cell communication, triggering healing and regenerative responses when delivered to target cells. Korean biotech leader ExoCoBio pioneered the commercial use of adipose-derived stem cell (ASC) exosomes in aesthetic dermatology, launching ASCE+ in 2019 — the world's first regenerative aesthetic exosome product.

Unlike injectable skin boosters like Rejuran or Juvelook, exosomes are typically delivered topically after a skin-barrier-breaking procedure — most commonly microneedling, fractional laser, RF microneedling (Potenza, Sylfirm X), or shallow skin needling. The microchannels allow exosome nanovesicles to penetrate the dermis, where they deliver their cargo to fibroblasts and keratinocytes. ExoCoBio's ASCE+ SRLV product has been studied in clinical trials for post-procedure recovery, atopic dermatitis, and acne-related inflammation.

Important to Know

Regulatory Status & Safety Notes

Exosome products are regulated in South Korea under KFDA cosmetic and medical device frameworks. ExoCoBio's Osong facility operates under GMP standards and ASCE+ products undergo cytotoxicity and safety testing. This is a key quality difference versus unregulated exosome products sold in some markets.

Important: Exosomes are NOT an injectable drug approved by the US FDA or EU EMA — the US FDA has issued warnings against injectable use of exosomes for aesthetic purposes. In ethical Korean clinics, exosomes are applied topically after microneedling or laser (to penetrate via created microchannels), not injected directly. If a clinic offers "exosome injections," ask specifically what is being injected — some use growth factor solutions marketed as exosomes that contain mostly peptides, not true exosomes.

Procedure

FAQ

Common Questions

Exosomes are tiny (30–200 nm) membrane-bound vesicles naturally released by cells. They contain proteins, lipids, and microRNAs that act as messengers between cells. In aesthetic medicine, exosomes derived from adipose stem cells are used to signal regenerative processes in skin without actually transferring living cells.
In Korean clinics, exosomes are most commonly applied topically immediately after microneedling, laser, or RF procedures that open microchannels in the skin. Direct injection of exosomes is controversial and not FDA-approved; the US FDA has specifically warned against injectable exosome products for aesthetic use.
PRP uses your own platelets and growth factors drawn from your blood. Rejuran uses salmon DNA polynucleotide (PN) fragments. Exosomes are cell-free nanovesicles from donor stem cells carrying signaling molecules. A 2025 split-face study showed exosomes performed comparably to PRP for photoaging outcomes. Some clinics combine exosomes with PRP or Rejuran for synergistic effects.
Typically 3–5 sessions at 2–4 week intervals for skin rejuvenation. Acne recovery protocols may use 4–6 sessions. Post-procedure inflammation relief can be a single session immediately after the base treatment.
KFDA-regulated exosome products from established manufacturers (ExoCoBio, BENEV) have been used in thousands of treatments with strong safety records. Topical application after microneedling is the standard. Always verify the product brand and KFDA registration at your clinic. Avoid unverified "exosome injection" offers.
